Medical Receptionist Courses

Cristina Anzellotti - Monday, May 06, 2013

As a medical receptionist you will be the first point of contact for patients calling and visiting a doctor's office. It's important for you to know and understand common medical terms used by both your employer and their patients, and also have the skills needed to properly manage medical files and accounts.

There are a number of different courses you can choose from to gain the skills and experience required to be a secretary or receptionist in a medical office, however only some of the courses carry real weight with potential employers and you need to be sure you’re choosing the right one.

What Does this Mean?

If you want to significantly increase your chances of gaining employment, it’s important to get a full qualification that’s nationally recognized at the certificate 3 or 4 level and not just a ‘statement of attainment’. This difference is very important. There are companies offering courses and calling them Medical Receptionist Courses but they only offer what’s known as a Statement of Attainment (SoA). The truth is, these courses and the SoA you receive will do little to further your prospects with employers.

If you want to invest in your career and get training that prospective employers respect and believe in, you will need to complete the course known as Certificate III in Business Administration (Medical) or a Certificate III or IV in Health Administration. When a doctor or similar potential employer talks about a medical secretary or medical reception qualification, this is what they are looking for.

The Result

By completing the Certificate III in Business Admin (Medical) or Health Admin you demonstrate that you have the full set of skills needed and you set yourself apart from the other candidates who may only have completed part of this qualification to receive an SoA.

At AHPT Solutions, we pride ourselves on offering REAL training & work ready Australian qualifications that will set our students on the right path to getting the job they want in the medical field.

To find out more, simply call our office or complete the contact form. And one of our friendly staff will call you to discuss your needs and requirements.

Who is it for?

These courses are suitable for anyone wishing to start in the medical field and especially those already working as medical receptionists who are looking to further develop their skills.
